I have been writing in media since 2007 and still, I struggle with writing articles even now. It is not easy. However, there are ways to help the budding writers in you to bloom. Many of us are comfortable speaking than we are at writing.

There is an App available on Google Play Store as well as Apple’s App Store – Otter, which helps you convert your speech into text. Otter is a smart note-taking app that empowers you to remember, search, and share your voice conversations (English only).

All you need to do is to download the App on your phone. Once you are ready, speak while the App is running and it converts the speech into text. The App stores both the audio and the text files. Both these files can then be exported onto your laptop (or computer), and the text can also be edited, in case the App has not recorded some of our Indian pronunciations properly.

With the Otter Free Plan, you get 600 minutes of transcription per month, which is a lot. Even if you take notes on every day of the month, you get roughly 20 minutes per day. You also get unlimited cloud storage to save all your conversations and the data is synced across all your devices.

If this is not sufficient, you may upgrade to Otter Premium to get even more. The cost is $79.99 per year – you may also opt for a payment of $9.99 per month. For that price, you get 6,000 minutes of transcription per month – 10x more than the free plan. You can also bulk export your notes. There is also a skip silence option, just in case if the pause in the speech is a bit too long.

I have been using Otter App for a couple of years now. I have not needed the premium plan, so far.

By the way, there are many uses of this App, apart from help in writing articles. You can take voice notes, or even record your conversations.
